Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about my patterns, sizing, sewing help, and the community.
Patterns & Sizes
What sizes do your patterns include?
My patterns include sizes 0-24. Most designs feature multiple length options, so you can customize the fit to your proportions. All patterns include a size guide and how to adjust section
Are your patterns beginner-friendly?
Most of them! Some are more intermediate level but every pattern includes detailed, illustrated step-by-step instructions, a glossary of terms, and video tutorials. Many customers make their first garment with my patterns. My most beginner friendly patterns are the Violette top, the Augusta skirt, the Isla dress, and the Puglia dress & top.
Do you offer maternity or nursing-friendly patterns?
Yes! All of my designs are bump and nursing friendly. Check out my instagram page to see them in action :)
What formats do patterns come in?
Each pattern comes in three formats: A4/US Letter (print-at-home on standard paper), A0 (full-size pattern roll from a print shop), and Projector format (project directly onto fabric to trace). All formats include graded sizes on separate layers, so you can only print/project the size(s) you need.
Are seam allowances included in the pattern?
Yes! All seam allowances are included and vary throughout the pattern pieces to minimise trimming. The instructions will specify what seam allowance to use for each step.
What height are your patterns drafted for?
They are drafted for a 5'4" height (164 cm). Instructions to add or remove length while keeping proportions are included in most patterns, as well as adjustment lines on the pattern pieces.
What bra cup are your patterns drafted for?
They are drafted for a B/C cup.
Order & Delivery
How do I receive my pattern after purchase?
Patterns are digital PDFs. You'll receive a download link via email immediately after purchase. No physical items are shipped.
Can I print patterns at home?
Yes! The A4/US Letter format is designed for home printing on standard paper. The A0 format can be printed at local print shops. The projector format lets you trace directly onto fabric.
What if I lose my pattern files?
No problem! Log into your account anytime and re-download my patterns. Your purchases are saved to your account permanently.
What do I need to print patterns?
A4 format: Home printer, paper, and scissors to cut pattern pieces.
A0 format: Access to a large-format print shop (many local print shops, Office Depot, or FedEx offer this service). The pattern arrives as a roll ready to cut.
Projector format: Projector, fabric, and a marker or fabric pen to trace directly onto your fabric.
Sewing Help
Do patterns come with video tutorials?
Yes! Each pattern includes links to step-by-step video tutorials on Gold & Skye's YouTube channel.
What should I do if I get stuck while sewing?
Don't worry! Check out the pattern instructions (with illustrations and glossary). Watch the corresponding video tutorial. If you still have questions, contact me on Instagram @goldandskyepatterns — I reply to messages!
What fabric should I use?
Each pattern specifies the ideal fabric weight and type. I generally design with lightweight to midweight natural fibers in mind—cotton, linen, viscose, and linen blends work beautifully. Check your specific pattern page for recommendations, required yardage, and notions (buttons, zippers, thread, etc.).
Do I need sewing experience to use these patterns?
No! Patterns are designed with beginners in mind. If you can thread a needle and use a sewing machine, you can make these. Advanced sewists will appreciate the thoughtful design and beautiful details.
Community & Newsletter
What's included in the Gold & Skye newsletter?
New pattern releases, sewing tips and tricks, video tutorials, behind-the-scenes updates from my workshop in the Pyrenees, and exclusive community content.
Is there a Gold & Skye community?
Absolutely! Join me on Instagram @goldandskyepatterns where sewists share their finished pieces, ask questions, and support each other. It's a wonderful and welcoming community.
How often are new patterns released?
New patterns are typically released 4 to 6 times a year. Subscribe to the newsletter or follow @goldandskyepatterns on Instagram for announcements.
Pattern Testing & Quality
How are your patterns tested?
Before release, every pattern is tested by a community of 30+ of various sewing level and size. I gather detailed feedback on sizing, instruction clarity, accuracy, construction methods, and fit before making the appropriate improvements — because patterns that work in theory need to work in practice.
Can I become a pattern tester?
Currently testing is by invitation, but if you're an engaged community member on Instagram or the newsletter, you might be selected! Testing is an amazing way to see patterns before release and give valuable feedback.
Work with me
Can I sell your patterns in my shop?
My patterns are PDF only, so there's no physical stock to carry. If you run a shop and would like to offer my patterns to your customers, I'm open to it — email me at loise@goldandskye.com and we'll work out the details together.
Can I use your patterns to teach a class?
Yes, I love seeing my patterns taught. Every student needs their own copy, so I give 50% off on 6 or more copies for classes, and you take care of sharing them with your students. Email me at loise@goldandskye.com to set it up.
Partnerships and collaborations?
I'm always happy to hear from people whose work I love. If you have a partnership or collaboration in mind, write to me at loise@goldandskye.com with a bit about you and your idea. I read every message, even if a reply takes me a little while (new mum over here 😊).
Can't find your answer?
Reach out on @goldandskyepatterns or by email at hello@goldandskye.com. I'd love to help.
